meet mikI

Miki Higuchi M.T.C.M., L.Ac.

I’m an introvert but can be an extrovert maybe twice a year. I am most comfortable one on one, which is perfect for my clinic style.

I have a love of all things animals, plants, and the great outdoors. If I had inifinite funds, I would actually still be practicing acupuncture, but would also be opening an animal sanctuary, and spending the rest of my time converting everything to native plants. I haven’t gotten into bird watching yet, but I can see it coming.

I’m becoming my own perfect little old lady.

my story

I actually do have a cliché  “acupuncture saved my life” story, so listen up if you want to hear it.

My back started aching when I was 18 years old. I had no idea why. By the age of 30, countless doctors later, I was wearing a tens (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator) unit all day, every day, to deal with worsening low back pain. I couldn’t sit comfortably at a restaurant, movie theater seat, car, anything. I am forever grateful to acupuncture, which allowed me to get back to living, back to running, and allowed me to let go of the fear I had developed of my own body since the age of 18.

This medicine has allowed me to run marathons, 50K’s, 100K’s,  and 100 mile ultramarathons. With a history of chronic pain, and even chronic fatigue, Chinese Medicine continues to remain a staple to me for healthy aging, injury repair, and to help pick me up when life gets the better of my mind and body.

While pain might be my first love, it comes in many forms (as the last few years have shown us). I welcome those with chronic viral persistence to talk to me.

ULTRARUNNING

ULTRARUNNING

Ultrarunning speaks to my soul. Not only does it allow me to explore and breathe in miles and miles of the great outdoors, but it also speaks to my bull headed stubborness to push  my body to the limits. It’s challenging and satisfying in a way I can’t fully explain.

After 17 years under my belt already, it’s certainly not a forever sport, but with the tools of the trade and a focus on keeping myself healthy as I age, I hope to keep going for as long as I can.

We are proud to support Coastal Trail Runs both as a sponsor, and as a runner!

GRAPHIC DESIGN WORK

Over the years I have designed quite a few local trail race logos, as well as a few in Southern California. Take a look and see if you’re wearing my work.
